Increased scholarship funding for NMC’s summer semester

The Northern Marianas College announced yesterday the availability of increased scholarship funding through the College Access Challenge Project, a federal outreach program designed to assist students with low-income backgrounds enter and succeed in college.

The deadline for submitting application forms for the summer session has been extended to May 17, 2011. The scholarship awards up to $1,200 per semester to high school juniors, seniors, and first-year college students with low-income backgrounds.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist recipients with the costs associated with college enrollment. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must:

-Be a high school junior, senior, or a first-year college student (having no more than 30 credits).

-Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident, which includes citizens of the U.S. Freely Associated States of Micronesia.

-Demonstrate eligibility for the federal PELL grant.

-Be admitted to and enrolled as a student at Northern Marianas College, or another U.S. accredited postsecondary institution.

Application forms can be downloaded from the NMC website at www.nmcnet.edu. Completed applications must be submitted with supporting documentation no later than 4:30pm on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, to the Financial Aid Office in Building N or postmarked on or before the due date to ensure eligibility and priority to receive an award. Faxed applications will not be accepted.

The CACP scholarship is made possible through financial support from the College Access Challenge Grant Program under the U.S. Department of Education.
